Kakamega Town Faces Big Problem: Drainage Blockage

By Lucy Maina

Kakamega town faces a significant challenge with blocked drains. During heavy rainfall, water cannot flow properly due to garbage and dirt clogging the drainages. Consequently, streets and homes experience flooding, greatly inconveniencing residents.

The root cause of this issue lies in the inadequate drainage system and improper waste disposal. Dumping trash into the drains leads to blockages, impeding water flow.

The residents of Kakamega are deeply dissatisfied with the floods as they disrupt businesses, hinder transportation, and cause property damage. Moreover, the presence of dirty water poses health risks to the community.

Addressing this challenge necessitates a collaborative approach between the government and citizens. Prioritizing efforts to improve cleanliness and optimize drainage systems must go hand in hand with promoting responsible waste disposal practices. Neglecting these actions risks perpetuating flood occurrences, affecting all stakeholders.
