We, the People

Despite wanton disillusionment and myriad miscarriages of justice

Our descent into the throbbing throngs of decadence,

Tell a story of human resilience and hopeful hope amidst menace –

malevolence of the political class is shrouded as incompetence

Yet, a People survive, barely, but we survive, starving, but we survive

Only through our spawn – a disparaged and condemned litter,

can we comprehend doomsday renaissance and a nation revived –

Only through ghouls of our butchered young we regain laughter

We, the People, are burdened by the ghosts of otiose heroes lost

We vent of their valiant valor and cower at the timidity of masses

We mourn for our slaughtered dead and endure raucous boasts

Albeit, from those we labored to power – and deaf to our curses

We recall the promise of democracy and a cohesive land of freedom,

Our heart strings still vibrate to echoes of human rights and equality,

With chants laced with lyrics of justice and hymns of a lawful Kingdom –

Not for the few, but longing for Dictatorship of the People for posterity.
